The ability of a firm of printers to produce accurate estimates for clients is crucial to the success of that firm. Errors in estimating can be the cause of losses on jobs and even result in the loss of a client and, if continued, will make for losses over a period. While there is currently a tendency for clients to take quality of work and reliable delivery for granted, clients quite understandably seek written quotations before placing work as a means of securing satisfaction on the final price charged: hence the need for accurate estimates. So the financial well-being of a printer can rest on the abilities of its estimators.
It follows that the better trained and more experienced the estimator, the prospect of successfully operating profitably in an increasingly competitive environment, such as experienced today, is enhanced.
